Project Change Management & Control - A Presentation to PMI NL Chapter

(2023-03-21) Linear Project Services Inc (LPS) and its Associates were pleased to provide a Project Management presentation to the NL Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMINL) on Wednesday, 01Mar2023.

The Title of the Presentation was: Project Change Management & Control

Above webinar was jointly presented by J R (Ric) Massie, Jr., PE, PMP, Capt. Paul Lee, and Gary Kennedy, P. Eng., PMP. It includes, but not limited to, the following:

- Change Requests, Orders, Logs, Approvals

- Project Team Roles of Engineers in Approval Cycle (with PEGNL advice)

- Process Plant MOC Committees

- Ship-to-Ship (STS) Transfer Video

- STS need for MOC Process

The presentation was opened by Gary Kennedy, P. Eng., PMP, with an overview of general Project Change Management approaches, and potential change impacts. Then the benefits of systematic Change Management processes were discussed.

J R (Ric) Massie, PE, PMP, then highlighted how Professional Engineering roles are involved in many, if not most, change management processes. He also summarized the typical team structure of a Management of Change (MOC) Committee for a process plant.

Next, Capt. Paul Lee narrated a video showing a Ship to Ship (STS) crude oil transfer, performed in the GOM under his direction. He then summarized how a Management of Change (MOC) is required for safe and effective changes in industrial processes such as the STS operations.

The Presenters on 01Mar2023:

(1) J R (Ric) Massie, Jr., PE, PMP (Houston, TX):

Ric has the role of Senior Executive Consultant of DLJ Engineers & Consultants. He is an associate of LPS and has more than 40 years of management of products, projects, manufacturing, operations, engineering, and construction. Ric's specialties in the Energy Sector include Upstream, Midstream, Downstream, Offshore, LNG, Hydrocarbons Processing and Technology.

(2) Capt. Paul Lee (Houston, TX, & St. John’s, NL):

Paul is an associate of LPS. He is originally from NL, a graduate of MUN Marine Institute, and now works out of Houston, TX. He has over 30 years in the marine field worldwide, including the USA, Nigeria, Japan, Brunei, UK. He is also a qualified instructor for various marine courses, including LNG Bunkering Operations, & STS (Ship to Ship) cargo transfer.

(3) Gary Kennedy, P. Eng., PMP (St. John’s, NL):

Gary is a Senior Project Manager, Civil Engineer, and President of LPS Inc in St. John’s, NL. He has over 30 years of experience in offshore, heavy civil, refining, mining, telecommunications, marine, airport, and other sectors. He is a Charter Member of the PMINL Chapter launched in 2001, has served as a Director on the PMINL Board, and has served as a Knowledge Management Lead with PMIHQ on an Energy, Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical Committee.
